Making my own pumpkin spice syrup (bc I can’t afford to shell out 4 bucks every time I get a craving for a PSL)
Super easy and you probably have the stuff to make it RIGHT NOW. Here’s what you’ll need and what to do:
1 c granulated sugar
1/2 c brown sugar
1.5 c of water
1/2 tsp of pumpkin pie spice (or as much/little as you want)
1/4 c pumpkin purée
You’ll also need a saucepan, strainer, and cheesecloth.
Put the sugars and water into the pot and heat until the sugar dissolves. DONT BRING IT TO A BOIL (otherwise you’ll make a caramel!)
Then add the spices and purée and whisk thoroughly. Crank the heat a little and make sure it dissolves. Keep it heated for 6-8 minutes. AGAIN, NO BOILING BRO.
When you’re done, take the pan of the heat and set aside for 2 seconds so you can set up your strainer, cheesecloth, and whatever container you’re storing the syrup in. You’re gonna put the cheesecloth in the strainer and the strainer over the container.
The cheesecloth is so you can strain out the granulated sugar and spices so the syrup is nice and smooth. If you don’t have a cheesecloth, triple layer up some paper towels and that should work too. Or even a thin kitchen tea towel.
Okay, now pour your mixture and let it strain! It’ll take 20 minutes or so. You can use it right away or stick it in the refrigerator! It should keep for about 2-3 weeks in an airtight container. Feel free to add a touch of vanilla at the end, as well.
Anddddd ta-da! You’re done!
